Russia was allied with the United States in World War I and World War II - (Russia sided immediately with Britain, France, and Serbia against Germany and Austria-Hungary when World War I began in 1914. The United States did not join the war until 1917, but did supply the Russians, and the other Allies, with war materiel. Many Americans also contributed individually to war relief for Russia.
The Allies, formally referred to as the United Nations from 1942, were an international military coalition formed during World War II (1939–1945) to oppose the Axis powers. Its principal members by the end of 1941 were the "Big Four" - United Kingdom, United States, Soviet Union, and China.)
